We report on the successful epitaxial growth of the bcc high temperature modification {sigma}-manganese in Fe/Mn multilayers on Ge(001) and GaAs(001) subtrates at room temperature using molecular beam epitaxy. Both structure and growth mode were observed in situ by reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) and Auger electron spectroscopy, respectively. RHEED and x-ray measurements confirmed the superlattices to grow coherently in the [001] orientation, given by the orientation of the substrates. 13 refs., 6 figs.
