Measurements of {Delta}{sub {sigma}}{sub L} for polarized neutron-polarized {sup 3}He scattering

We present results for the longitudinal total cross section difference {Delta}{sigma}{sub L} for polarized neutrons incident upon a polarized {sup 3}He target. The measurements were performed in the energy range 3-8 MeV, using a cryogenically polarized solid {sup 3}He target. Polarized neutrons were produced by the D(d,n) and T(p,n) reactions. The measurements complement our earlier results for the transverse cross section difference {Delta}{sigma}{sub T}. We compare the cross sections to a variety of n-{sup 3}He phase shift predictions, including a charge-independent R-matrix analysis and a recent microscopic RGM calculation.
