Measurement of {Delta}{sigma}{sub T} in polarized proton scattering

Measurements of the spin-dependent difference in total cross section, {Delta}{sigma}{sub T}, have been made for n-p scattering for incident neutron energies of 7.5, 9.5, 11.5 MeV. In this energy range, {Delta}{sigma}{sub T} is very sensitive to the {sup 3}S{sub 1}-{sup 3}D{sub 1} phase-shift mixing parameter {epsilon}{sub i} and insenstive to most other phase shifts. {epsilon}{sub i} measures the strength of the NN tensor interaction at low energies. The measurements were made using a polarized neutron beam from the {sup 2}H({bar d}.{bar n}){sup 3}He reaction and a cryogenically polarized proton target in the form of TiH{sub 2}. The present experiments extend earlier measurements to higher energies. Data will be presented and compared to various potential-model predictions. Preliminary analysis favors the Bonn NN potential models.
