Intermediate mass Higgs boson at the proposed CERN LEP {circle_times} LHC {ital ep} collider. I. Standard model

The production of the SM Higgs boson {phi} with intermediate mass at the proposed CERN LEP {circle_times} LHC {ital ep} collider in {gamma}{ital q}({ital q}{vert_bar}){implies}{ital W}{sup {plus_minus}}{phi}{ital q}{prime}({ital q}{vert_bar}{prime}), {gamma}{ital q}({ital q}{vert_bar}){implies}{ital Z}{sup 0}{phi}{ital q}({ital q}{vert_bar}), and {ital g}{gamma}{implies}{ital q}{ital q}{vert_bar}{phi} events is studied. This is done for all possible (massive) flavors of the quarks {ital q}({ital q}{prime}) and using photons generated via Compton back scattering of laser light. We study signatures in which the Higgs boson decays to {ital bb{vert_bar}} pairs and the electroweak vector bosons {ital W}{sup {plus_minus}} and {ital Z}{sup 0} decay either hadronically or leptonically. All possible backgrounds to these signals are also computed. Flavor identification on {ital b} jets is assumed. Explicit formulas for the helicity amplitudes of the above processes are given. {copyright} {ital 1995 The American Physical Society.}
