SiC/AlN composites with controlled interfacial solid solution were employed in the present work for investigating the effects of interfacial bonding and AlN polytypes on the mechanical properties. Platelike AlN polytypes and interfacial bonding were found to have substantial effects on the flexural strength, hardness, and fracture toughness.
