Pumped-storage technology and electricity suppliers` understanding of its potential continue to evolve. As the twenty-first century approaches, pumped storage has become a powerful and dynamic tool for utilities to provide the high quality of electricity supply demanded by modern society. This article reviews the electrical distribution system in England and Wales and the role of the large Dinorwig station and Ffestinoig station pumped storage projects. A brief description of the development and design of the Dinorwig station is included.
