Dinorwig Power Station generator motor stators - the development of tooling for stator rewedging with the rotor in situ

Conference ·
OSTI ID:220091
Dinorwig Power Station, commissioned in 1983, is amongst the largest pumped storage Power Stations in Europe. It was specifically designed to meet sudden increases in electricity demand and can generate up to 1320 MW output within approximately 12 seconds. The station is one of two plants operated by the National Grid Company`s Pumped Storage Business. The stators of the six 330 MVA Generator Motors at Dinorwig have neither been rewound nor totally rewedged since going into service. Monitoring of wedge tightness commenced in 1987. By 1990, signs indicated that the wedges were slackening. This paper details the systems which have been developed to rewedge the stators with the rotor in situ.
