Measurements of quasi-elastic pion single charge exchange on {sup 3}He at {ital T}{sub {pi}}=245 MeV

Differential cross sections for the {sup 3}He({pi}{sup {plus_minus}},{pi}{sup 0}) and {sup 3}He({pi}{sup {plus_minus}},{pi}{sup 0}{ital p}) reactions are presented. The {sup 3}He({pi}{sup {plus_minus}},{pi}{sup 0}{ital p}) reaction is dominated by the quasi-free process. In the {sup 3}He({pi}{sup {minus}},{pi}{sup 0}{ital p}) reaction, at least two nucleons must be involved. Comparisons between coincidence and single-arm measurements from this work and with previous measurements of charged pion scattering on {sup 3}He are shown. These comparisons are used to determine the relative strength of single-nucleon and multi-nucleon processes in a simple nuclear system. {copyright} {ital 1995} {ital American} {ital Institute} {ital of} {ital Physics}.
