Earlier studies using the technique of second-order interferometry in order to infer the space-time structure of ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions have yielded primarily geometrical information concerning these reactions. In a second-generation two-particle correlation study of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions, the NA35 TPC at the CERN SPS has been used in order to collect a high statistics data set of negative hadrons forward of rapidity 3 (nucleon-nucleon mid-rapidity) from centrally triggered E/A=200 GeV S + Au collisions. The authors present preliminary results on the evolution of the two-particle correlation function in the space of selected pair kinematic quantities in the hope of elucidating dynamical information. They also present preliminary results from a study of the dependence of the apparent pion source size upon event centrality.
