The {sup 59}Co(n,{alpha}) reactions from threshold to 30 MeV

Alpha-particle emission during bombardment of {sup 59}Co with neutrons has been studied with the spallation neutron source at WNR/LAMPF. Double differential cross sections were measured for neutron energies from threshold to 30 MeV and for emission angle of 30, 60, 90 and 135 degrees. The integrated cross sections agree well with the activation data below 14 MeV. At higher energies, the integrated alpha cross section exceeds the {sup 59}Co(n,{alpha}){sup 56}Mn activation cross section. To the authors knowledge, these are the only double differential measurements of neutron-induced alpha-particle emission from {sup 59}Co outside of the 14-15 MeV neutron energy range.
