Systematic study of low-lying states in odd-A Po nuclei

As a complement to the on-going program to study the neutron-deficient even-even Po nuclei, the authors have investigated the neighboring odd-A isotopes. This is useful in order to understand better the single particle influence on the onset of collectivity and other nuclear properties. The {sup 174,176}Yb({sup 29}Si,4n) reactions were used to populate the yrast and near-yrast states in {sup 199,201}Po using HERA at the 88 inches cyclotron at LBL. The preliminary analysis of the data has enabled the authors to extend the low-lying level structures in both nuclei. The interplay of spherical shell model and collective effects will be discussed.
