Lifetimes of states in the regular and irregular {Delta}I = 1 bands in {sup 197}Pb have been measured using the Doppler-shift attenuation method. Excited states in {sup 197}Pb were populated using the {sup 154}Sm({sup 48}Ca,5n) reaction at a beam energy of 210 MeV, with 1 mg/cm{sup 2} target on a 10 mg/cm{sup 2} Au backing. In-beam {gamma}rays were measured with the HERA spectrometer at the LBL 88-Inch Cyclotron facility. {Delta}I = 1 {gamma}-rays in the energy range 300 < E{sub {gamma}} < 500 keV in the regular band showed lineshapes consistent with lifetimes of the same order as the stopping of the recoil in the backing. Preliminary lineshape analysis of the data indicate that the lifetimes of the {Delta}I = 1 transitions are similar to those found recently in similar structures in {sup 198}Pb. The measured lifetimes support the suggested collective nature of these bands.
