Nuclear response to quasifree K{sup +} scattering
- and others
K{sup +} nucleus quasifree cross sections measured for a laboratory Kaon beam momentum of 720 MeV/c are presented for fixed three-momentum transfers of 300, 400 and 500 MeV/c. Doubly differential cross sections for Ca and Pb at momentum transfers of 300 and 500 MeV/c and for C at momentum transfers of 300, 400 and 500 MeV/c are displayed and compared to several many-body theoretical calculations with good agreement. Agreement is also found between the measured differential cross sections and simple Glauber calculations used to deduce the effective number of nucleons partaking in the scattering. The long mean free path expected for K{sup +} scattering on nuclei is confirmed by observation of scattering equivalent to 36 nucleons in lead.
