A measurement of B{sub s} meson lifetime

Journal Article · · Bulletin of the American Physical Society
OSTI ID:243537
Decays of the B{sub s} meson can yield correlations between an electron or a muon and a D{sub s}{sup +} meson. A search for D{sub s}{sup +}{ell}{sup {minus}} combinations in 251,000 hadronic Z{sup 0} decays recorded with the ALEPH detector during the 1991 running of LEP yields 15 combinations where the D{sub s}{sup +} decays to {phi}{pi}{sup +} or to K{sup {star}0}K. Reconstructing the decay length of the B{sub s} candidates using the silicon microvertex detector and performing an unbinned maximum likelihood to the resulting decay length distribution yields a preliminary result for the B{sub s} meson lifetime. An update of this measurement based on 800,000 hadronic Z decays recorded during the 1992 running of LEP shall also be reported.
