Observation of the semileptonic decays of the B{sub S} meson

In 450,000 hadronic Z decays recorded with the ALEPH detector at LEP, the yields of D{sub S}{sup {minus}}{ell}{sup +} combinations have been measured. 16.0{+-}4.3 D{sub S}{sup {minus}}{ell}{sup +} combinations were observed in the D{sub S}{sup {minus}}{r_arrow}{phi}{pi}{sup {minus}} channel and 17.0{+-}4.5 combinations were observed in the D{sub S}{sup {minus}}{r_arrow}K*{sup 0}K{sup {minus}} channel. These events provide evidence for the decay B{sub S}{r_arrow}D{sub S}{sup {minus}}X{ell}{sup +}{nu}. Assuming the the B{sub S} semileptonic decays are dominantly three-body, these observed yields, after background subtraction, translate into a product branching ratio: Br({bar b}{r_arrow}B{sub S}){center_dot}Br(B{sub S}{r_arrow}D{sub S}{sup {minus}}X{ell}{sup +}{nu}) = 0.040 {+-}0.011{sub {minus}0.012}{sup +0.010}.
