Public citizen slams NRC on nuclear inspections

Charging the Nuclear Regulatory Commission with {open_quotes}abandoning tough regulation of the nuclear power industry,{close_quotes} Public Citizen`s Critical Mass Energy Project on Wednesday released a report asserting that NRC is shielding sensitive internal nuclear industry self-evaluations from public scrutiny. Based on their review of 56 Institute of Nuclear Power Operations reports and evaluations and comparing these to the NRC`s Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance reports for the same plants, it was concluded that the NRC failed to address issues raised in all eight areas evaluated by the INPO reports.
