Saturated and unsaturated (hydrotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)borato)tungsten(II) carbene complexes

Reaction of [Tp{prime}(CO){sub 2} W(PhC{sub 2}H)][BF{sub 4}] (Tp{prime} = hydrotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)borato) with PhC{sub 2}H or reaction of Tp{prime}(CO)IW(PhC{sub 2}R) (R = H, Me) with PhC{sub 2}H/AgBF{sub 4} generates cationic bisalkyne complexes [Tp{prime}(CO)W(PhC{sub 2}H)-(PhC{sub 2}R)][BF{sub 4}]. NMR and crystal data suggest that the two alkyne ligands donate a total of six electrons to the metal with phenyl groups distal to each other. Crystals of the bis(phenylacetylene) complex belong to the monoclinic space group P2{sub 1}/n, Z = 4.
