Multimedia approach means less for the TSDF

Journal Article · · Pollution Engineering

Industrial facilities generating waste products, or pollutants, that ultimately cannot be converted to a saleable product incur significant costs related to such pollutants. This work is devoted to the economics of waste and pollutant disposal from a perspective of multimedia pollution prevention and waste minimization. Specific facility expenditures for waste disposal are highly variable, and are a function of the type of waste generated, the proximity of a waste treatment, storage or disposal facility (TSDF) and local or state regulations, just to name a few factors. Accordingly, the focus of this work is not on the specific costs for waste or pollutant disposal, but rather on how a multimedia pollution prevention and waste minimization strategy can reduce overall disposal or treatment costs for an industrial facility that generates wastes requiring off-site treatment or disposal. Pollutants of concern include toxic organic compounds and metals.
