Measurement of cross sections of the {sup 241}Am(n,γ){sup 242}Am and {sup 243}Am(n,γ){sup 244}Am reactions

The thermal neutron capture cross sections (σ{sub 0}) and the resonance integral (I{sub 0}) of the reactions {sup 241}Am(n,γ){sup 242}Am and {sup 243}Am(n,γ){sup 244}Am reactions were measured by means of an activation method to obtain fundamental data for research on the transmutation of nuclear waste. Highly-purified {sup 241}Am and {sup 243}Am targets were irradiated in aluminum capsules. The Co/Al and Au/Al alloy wires as activation detectors were irradiated together with the americium samples to the monitor neutron fluxes and the fraction of the epithermal part (Westcott's index). The σ{sub 0} and I{sub 0} of the reactions of {sup 241}Am(n,γ){sup 242}Am and {sup 243}Am(n,γ){sup 244}Am were precisely measured by radiochemical method.
