Fluidization and Volatility Processes

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:23134689
The objective of the fluoride volatility program is to develop the technical data required for the design of an all-volatility commercial plant for the reprocessing of power reactor fuels. Currently, major attention is being directed toward the demonstration of fluoride volatility processes for low-enrichment UO{sub 2}-PUO{sub 2} fuel clad in Zircaloy. Two alternative process flowsheets, described in ANL-7055, pp. 99-102, are being considered for this type of fuel. In one concept, the fuel is contacted directly with oxygen and fluorine to form UF{sub 6} and PuF{sub 6} which are subsequently separated from each other.
