Fluidization Tests

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:23134713
The fluidized-bed process to convert (U,Pu)O{sub 2} to (U,Pu)C is in the planning and design stage. One source of (U,Pu)O{sub 2} for this process would be the ,UF{sub 6}-PuF{sub 6} product of the fluoride volatility fuel reprocessing cycle that is being studied by other groups in this Division. The (U,Pu)O{sub 2}, on the basis of experimental data for UO{sub 2}, is expected to have a high bulk density. It is contemplated that carbon will be blended with the oxide during conversion of UF{sub 6}-PuF{sub 6} to (U,Pu)O{sub 2}, after which the (U,Pu)O{sub 2}-carbon mixture.will be converted in a high-temperature (1500 to 1700°C) fluidized bed to the monocarbide.
