Utility software operation on parallel computers

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:230379
Numerical simulation of electric power systems is an important tool in guaranteeing their safe and uninterrupted operation. Continuing growth in the speed and affordability of computers now enables many simulations, previously conducted off-line, to be conducted on-line. Monitoring of the current power system configuration can be combined with dynamic analysis of failure contingencies. This report describes the development of parallel numerical libraries and the study of programming and compilation techniques to produce faster solutions for individual simulations on parallel computers.
