Five near-{gamma} alloys have been characterized as to their response to both isothermal forging and hot extrusion followed by isothermal forging. Comparable microstructures are attained after each of these operations when the alloys are recrystallized at similar temperatures relative to their {alpha}-transus temperatures. Tensile and creep properties can be compared between the alloys once equivalent microstructures are obtained. Multiple step hot working does not necessarily guarantee chemical homogeneity or improved tensile properties. Lower strength alloys, such as Ti-47Al-2Cr-2Nb, show superior ductility with lower tensile and creep strength. High strength alloys like Ti-46Al-2Cr-4Ta and Ti-46Al-5Nb-1W have lower ductilities. The volume fraction of {beta} phase strongly affects both tensile and creep properties in Ta modified alloys.
