Chromatographic isolation of gadolinium-153 from irradiated europium targets with the use of separating ions

The method is developed for gadolinium-153 isolation from irradiated europium targets by displacement-complexation chromatography on KU-2 cation-exchange resin in the Cu form with introduction of separating ion (Cd) into the system. The influence of various chromatographic parameters on the efficiency of the Gd-Eu separation is investigated. An additional separation band of sorbed EDTA is demonstrated to form along with the cadmium band, providing complete Gd-Eu separation. The Gd-Eu separation is strongly affected by both holding and separating ions.
