Hydrodynamics of oil and gas
The purpose of this book, as indicated in the preface, is to {open_quotes}... provide a compendium of behaviors under a variety of conditions so that an appreciation of the interesting patterns of behavior is collected in one place.{close_quotes} The authors successfully accomplished this purpose. The diversity and scope of the subjects covered make this book useful for explorationists, especially those looking for subtle stratigraphic traps, and for production geologists and engineers. The authors subdivide the book into 13 chapters and provide a discussion of the fundamentals. The first chapter gives a short historical perspective. The following chapter deals briefly with the dynamics of thin oil stringers and the effects of salinity and gas on them. Chapter 3 discusses the generalization of Hubbert`s conditions. The next four chapters deal with oil-capped aquifers of different widths and angles. Chapter 8 discusses variable permeability and its effect on oil accumulation. All these chapters are abundantly illustrated with clear diagrams and cross sections showing the effects of changing parameters. The following four chapters are concerned with oil/gas stingers, migration, and diffusion of hydrocarbons in complex stratigraphic sequences. The discussion in the last chapter about cross discipline is concise and informative. The appendix with the diskette provides an excellent opportunity to test the different modules. This impressive book takes the myth out of the complexity of hydrodynamics of oil and gas. It provides a quick overview of the importance of different factors involved by going through the theoretical developments and case histories. Those who are interested in a more detailed quantitative approach can find that in the quantitative development sections. This book is a welcome edition for explorationists and for production geologists and engineers.
