New technologies for treatment of low-level wastes in PWR plants

JGC has successfully completed R and D of Advanced Cement Solidification and High Temperature Incineration processes using demonstration pilot plants with full-scale capacity. In 1993, a radioactive waste treatment facility using these technologies was constructed at a typical PWR plant in Japan. It is now being successfully operated. In this paper, these technologies and the Cement Grout conditioning process are described. Further, a total processing system for treatment of all low-level waste streams in a PWR is proposed.
