Synthesis and characterization of InP nanocrystals
- Univ. of California, Berkeley, CA (United States); and others
Quantum confined InP nanocrystals have been synthesized via the reaction of InCl{sub 3} and P((SiCH{sub 3}){sub 3}){sub 3} in a variety of coordinating solvents at elevated temperature. The nanocrystals are highly crystalline, monodisperse, soluble in a variety of organic solvents and can be prepared in sizes ranging from 20 to 60 {Angstrom} in diameter. Size selective precipitation results in a narrow size distribution which allows for more effective study of size dependent properties. The nanocrystals have been characterized and studied with a variety of techniques including XRD, TEM, XPS, Raman, NMR, and absorption and emission spectroscopies. The surface of the nanocrystals is particularly important in determining many of the properties of these systems and particular attention has been given to understanding this aspect of the particles.
