The Mercury Deposition Network (MDN) is a national network sampling for total mercury in precipitation. Currently 15 sites are operating, with 30 sites anticipated in 1996 (possibly including sites in Canada). The objective of the MDN is to develop a national (continental) database on the weekly concentration of total mercury in precipitation, as well as the seasonal and annual flux of total mercury in wet deposition. Presented are the methodologies incorporated within the MDN, as well as the results of monitoring for total and methyl-mercury at MDN sites which have operated for at least one year.
