The spectral and lasing properties of Cr{sup 2+}:ZnS and Cr{sup 2+}: ZnSe crystals pumped by Raman-shifted nanosecond neodymium lasers are studied. Tunable pulsed lasing is obtained in the mid-IR range between 2.05 and 2.40 {mu}m. The minimum lasing threshold was 170 {mu}J at the maximum slope efficiency of 20 %. (active media. lasers)
