The behaviour of high-purity fluorite and KU-1, KS-4V and Corning 7980 quartz glasses exposed to an electron beam and KrF laser radiation is studied. Exposing these materials to {approx}5-MW cm{sup -2} KrF-laser radiation both during the action of the electron beam and after it reduces their residual absorption at least by a factor of 1.5.
