A novel method for extracting absolute resonance strengths has been investigated. By implanting {sup 22}Ne ions into a thick aluminum backing and simultaneously measuring the {sup 22}Ne+p and {sup 27}Al+p reactions, the strength of the E{sub r}{sup lab}=479 keV resonance in {sup 22}Ne(p,gamma){sup 23}Na was determined to be omegagamma=0.524(51) eV. This result has significantly reduced uncertainties compared to earlier work. Our results are important for the absolute normalizations of resonance strengths in the {sup 22}Ne(p,gamma){sup 23}Na hydrogen-burning reaction and in the {sup 22}Ne+alpha s-process neutron-source reactions.
