To investigate the performance of a cold crucible employed for melting of corium, which is a mixture of UO{sub 2} and ZrO{sub 2}, a computational analysis of the coupled electro-magnetic field, heat transfer, and fluid flow are carried out. Governing differential equations, basic numerical methods, computational models, and the results of the simulation of cold crucible melting are discussed. The comparison of experimental data with the analysis results indicated that the fundamental characteristics of the cold crucible melting are well reflected in the computational model. (authors)
