The effect of electron irradiation on the luminescence of cadmium and lead tungstates

It is shown that the intensity of luminescence of cadmium tungstate crystals changes nonmonotonically under electron irradiation. At low irradiation doses, an increase in the luminescence intensity can be observed. However, with an increase in the irradiation dose, the luminescence intensity decreases. The effect observed can be explained by the competition of two processes: increase in the number of luminescence centers and nonradiative recombination under the action of irradiation.
