Coulomb Dissociation Of Proton-Rich Nuclei {sup 23}Al and {sup 27}P And Their Implications

Two astrophysically important reactions, {sup 22}Mg(p,{gamma}){sup 23}Al and {sup 26}Si(p,{gamma}){sup 27}P, were studied experimentally by using the Coulomb dissociation of proton-rich nuclei {sup 23}Al and {sup 27}P. The radiative widths determined from the cross sections suggest that the {beta}{sup +} decay of {sup 22}Mg is favored over the {sup 22}Mg(p,{gamma}){sup 23}Al reaction while {sup 26}Si(p,{gamma}){sup 27}P reaction is faster than the {beta}{sup +} decay of {sup 26}Si around the peak temperature of heavy novae. The measured radiative widths are consistent with the theoretical values used in the network calculations of nucleosynthesis, therefore providing confirmation that the theoretical stories of nucleosynthesis do not require any change in these sites of the reaction chains.
