Title: Diffractive J/{psi} photoproduction in a dual model

Abstract

J/{psi} photoproduction is studied in the framework of the analytic S-matrix theory. The differential and integrated elastic cross sections for J/{psi} photoproduction are calculated from a dual amplitude with Mandelstam analyticity. It is argued that, at low energies, the background, which is the low-energy equivalent of the high-energy diffraction, replaces the Pomeron exchange. The onset of the high-energy Pomeron dominance is estimated from the fits to the data.

  • The vector meson production in coherent hadron-hadron interactions at LHC energies is studied assuming that the color singlet t-channel exchange carries large momentum transfer. We consider the nonforward solution of the Balitsky, Fadin, Kuraev, and Lipatov equation at high energy and large momentum transfer and estimate the rapidity distribution and total cross section for the process h{sub 1}h{sub 2{yields}}h{sub 1}J/{Psi}X, where h{sub i} can be a proton or a nucleus. We predict large rates, which implies that the experimental identification can be feasible at the LHC.

  • An analysis is made of a mechanism for the photoproduction of J/psi mesons on nucleons with an imaginary amplitude that arises as the shadow of the amplitudes for the photoproduction of charmed particles. It is possible to describe the experimental data by means of this mechanism only if at moderate energies E/sub ..gamma../GeV a major role is played by processes involving the production of a charmed baryon and meson or a pair of charmed mesons in a resonant state, while at high energies the dominant processes involve the photoproduction of pairs of charmed mesons accompanied by hadrons, with a crossmore » section that exceeds the cross section for the photoproduction of psi mesons by more than an order of magnitude.« less
  • Exclusive J/Psi electroproduction is studied in the framework of the analytic S-matrix theory. The differential and integrated elastic cross sections are calculated using the Modified Dual Amplitude with Mandelstam Analyticity (M-DAMA) model. The model is applied to the description of the available experimantal data and proves to be valid in a wide region of the kinematical variables s, t and Q^2. Our amplitude can be used also as a universal background parametrization for the extraction of tiny resonance signals.
