How to avoid major hazards from oil- and gas pipelines in the coastal- and inner waters of Denmark

Dansk Olie and Naturgas A/S owns and operates approx. 500 km of offshore gas and oil pipelines running from the platforms in the Danish sector of North Sea platforms to the mainland and through the inner waters towards Sweden. The paper describes the preventive measures taken by Dansk Olie and Naturgas A/S to avoid major hazards and their effects on the marine environment. Inspection methods to detect deficiencies before they develop into a hazardous situation are described along with emergency plans for how to handle hazardous situations, should they occur, the surveillance for possible damage, prior to repair including the safety precautions to be taken, and finally in the case of the oil pipeline, the oil spill clean-up procedures are described.
