Monte Carlo simulations of proton-induced spallation reactions show that the shape of sensitive volume determines the variation of SEU cross section with angle of incidence. As the sensitive volume dimensions become smaller, the cross section variation becomes more pronounced. COSMIC simulation results are shown to be consistent with results from a simulation code by others, a direct contradiction to statements made in a cited reference. The simulation results somewhat consistent with experimental measurements on surface barrier detectors.
