NiX{sub 2}(2-RSC{sub 6}H{sub 4}CH{double{underscore}bond}NCH{sub 2}CH{sub 2}N{double{underscore}bond}CHC{sub 6}H{sub 4}SR-2) (NiX{sub 2}L; L = 5) (1a, X = Br, R = C{sub 6}H{sub 13}; 1b, X = Cl, R = C{sub 12}H{sub 25}) and NiX{sub 2}(2-C{sub 6}H{sub 13}SC{sub 6}H{sub 4}CH{sub 2}NHCH{sub 2}C{sub 6}H{sub 4}SC{sub 6}H{sub 13}-2) (NiX{sub 2}L; L = 6) (2a, X = Br; 2b, X = Cl; 2c, X = OClO{sub 3}) were prepared from ligands 5 and 6, respectively. The 1:2 metal-ligand complex Ni(OClO{sub 3}){sub 2}(2-RSC{sub 6}H{sub 4}CH{sub 2}NHCH{sub 2}CH{sub 2}NHCH{sub 2}C{sub 6}H{sub 4}SR-2){sub 2}3, was obtained from an EtOH solution of 2c. The characterization of paramagnetic 1--3 included single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies of 1a and 3. Complex 2c converted into 3 in the presence of excess ligand 6 in CHCl{sub 3}.
