Case study: CP retrofits of onshore facilities

Journal Article · · Materials Performance
OSTI ID:20017430
Ras Shuikier facilities in the Gulf of Suez handle 800,000 bbl per day of crude oil with 60% water content. The infrastructure of the oil processing facilities includes 110,000 m{sup 2} of buried steel. An impressed current cathodic protection system was installed to externally protect buried portions. After 6 months, a sharp drop in potential level was observed. The retrofitting project involved ground bed repairs and redistribution of individual sections, upgrading electrical cables, and adding new anodes.
