Normal state resistivity of YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}}/PrBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 2.8}Ga{sub 0.2}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}} c-axis superlattices: Evidence for an underdoping effect of YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}}

The authors measured the ab-plane resistivity of c-axis YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}}/PrBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 2.8}Ga{sub 0.2}O{sub 7} superlattices grown by pulsed laser deposition, from {Tc} to 325 K. The normal-state resistivity and the fluctuation regime above {Tc} studied for different thickness of YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}} and PrBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 2.8}Ga{sub 0.2}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}} in the superlattice period. As the concentration of PrBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 2.8}Ga{sub 0.2}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}} is raised, the {Tc} decreases and the resistivity increases. Evidence is given for an underdoping effect in the YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}} layers and the measurements are compared to similar measurements on oxygen-deficient YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}} thin films, grown on the same equipment. They are also compared to measurements on YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3{minus}x}Co{sub x}O{sub 7{minus}{delta}} single crystals made by other groups. They present here the different measurements and investigate the mechanisms that could be held responsible for this depletion in charge carriers.
