Research and design activities in support of the Chicago underflow plan McCook reservoir aeration system

Conference ·
OSTI ID:20014870
This paper discussed activities being performed in support of the aeration system design for one of the three terminal storage reservoirs associated with the Chicago Underflow Plan, a project proposed to minimize combined sewer flooding problems in the Chicago Metropolitan Area. The activities included: implementation of a combined sewage sampling plan, water quality modeling of the combined sewage as it flows through the deep tunnel, the development of a three-dimensional hydrodynamic model, and the execution of diffusion tests both in tanks and in the field. Preliminary results from the combined sewage sampling program, oxygen transfer test, and velocity tests are provided.
