Wet H{sub 2}S cracking -- A refiner's experience with HIC resistant steels

The identification of wet H{sub 2}S cracking in refinery pressure vessels led to the use of HIC-resistant steels to minimize cracking. A review of field experience with these steels indicated that while they are not immune to cracking they are better than conventional steels in resisting cracking.
