Mobile CEM trailer and data acquisition and handling system for complying with CFR title 40, Part 60
CONSOL is one of the largest coal producers in the US. At some coal preparation plants, thermal dryers are used to reduce the moisture from the fine coal. The thermal dryers are subject to CFR Title 40, Part 60 and state regulations. To satisfy the testing requirements of these regulatory agencies, CONSOL R and D designed a mobile Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEM) trailer complete with a Data Acquisition and Handling System (DAHS). The mobile CEM trailer and the DAHS can monitor the following flue gas emissions: O{sub 2}, CO{sub 2}, NO{sub x}, SO{sub 2}, CO, and total volatile organic compounds (VOC). A personal computer (PC) controls a programmable logic controller (PLC), which in turn controls the routing of calibration and flue gases through a network of tubing and solenoid valves to the CEMs. The DAHS automatically steps the operator through the EPA required pre-test procedures, such as: sample system bias, calibration error, linearity checks, and response time evaluations. There is a minimal amount of operator set-up and control required. All set-up parameters are checked by the DAHS for compliance with EPA test criteria. The DAHS compiles and averages emissions data over operator specified test durations. The DAHS also automatically compiles pre- and post-test calibration zero and span drift test data and calculates corrected emissions concentrations. After completing a test run, the DAHS generates post-test emissions reports, including corrected one-minute and overall data averages and graphical plots, as well as QA/QC related reports.
