The Heidrun TLP tether system, subjected to operational oscillatory tensile loads, is vulnerable to fatigue and fracture. Because of uncertainties in loads and strengths, a reliability approach is employed to quantify structural performance and to verify integrity. Improvement in reliability can be accomplished with a maintenance program of periodic inspection and repair. Results of a reliability analysis indicate that the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate requirements relating to loadbearing structures (NPD 1992) are satisfied. Effects of uncertainties in defining system parameters are also studied.
