Laser desorption mass spectrometry has been used for detecting large DNA. Double-stranded DNA of 500 base pairs and single-stranded DNA of 500 nucleotides have been successfully detected by mass spectrometry. The success of detecting large DNA segments by laser mass spectrometry is due to the discovery of new matrices for matrix-assisted laser desorption and the novel design of the time-of-flight mass spectrometer. Details will be presented in the meeting.
