The Plains CO2 Reduction (PCOR) Partnership, led by the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC), was formed as part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnerships (RCSP) Initiative in 2003. The RCSP Program supports deployment of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies—with primary focus on carbon utilization and geologic storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) (hereafter referred to as storage)—as an essential means of reducing the carbon intensity of electricity generation and other CO2-emitting industrial processes. The PCOR Partnership has a growing membership, which has included over 120 industry, government, and research organizations, and over a decade of experience developing, testing, and validating methods and technologies for conducting CO2 storage projects. Nine U.S. states and four Canadian provinces comprise the PCOR Partnership region, covering an area of 1.4 million square miles in the northern Great Plains.
