PCOR Partnership assessment of CO2 geologic storage associated with enhanced oil recovery

The papers in this special issue of the International Journal of Greenhouse Gas Control are based on research undertaken by the Plains CO2 Reduction (PCOR) Partnership, led and managed by the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) based in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The PCOR Partnership is one of seven Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnerships (RCSPs) set up by the U.S. Department of Energy in 2003 to facilitate large-scale CO2 geologic storage (herein “storage”) in support of the deployment of carbon capture and storage (CCS). Covering a geographical area of approximately 3.6 million square kilometers (Fig. 1), the PCOR Partnership region encompasses nine U.S. states and four Canadian provinces. Furthermore, over 120 organizations representing industry, governments, regulators, and academia have joined the PCOR Partnership and provided support as members through sponsorship and participation in annual conferences.
