Here, the synthesis of the first water stable isoreticular phosphonate based mixed-linker metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) is achieved via the use of the N-donor heterocyclic co-ligands. Furthermore, these isoreticular phosphonate frameworks show selective CO2/N2 uptake at low pressures.
