In elastic scattering of deuterons, effects of virtual breakup of the deuteron to spin-singlet states are investigated with the CDCC method. The tensor analyzing power {ital A}{sub {ital yy}} is seriously affected by the singlet breakup, while the cross section and the vector analyzing power {ital A}{sub {ital y}} are little. The analysis with the spin-space tensor amplitudes introduced by the invariant-amplitude method clarifies that the singlet-breakup effect considered here plays as an effective {ital T}{sub {ital L}}-type tensor interaction.
