Large violations of the {Delta}{ital I}=1/2 rule in {Lambda}{ital N}{r_arrow}{ital NN}

Using the quark model and the QCD-modified effective weak Hamiltonian at a scale {congruent}1 GeV, we demonstrate that the weak conversion process {Lambda}{ital N}{r_arrow}{ital NN} should show large violations of the {Delta}{ital I} =1/2 rule for {sup 1}{ital S}{sub 0}{r_arrow}{sup 1}{ital S}{sub 0} and {sup 1}{ital S}{sub 0}{r_arrow}{sup 3}{ital P}{sub 0} transitions. The amplitudes for these transitions are sufficiently large that the resulting violation should be readily detectable in light hypernuclear decay experiments. {copyright} {ital 1995} {ital American} {ital Institute} {ital of} {ital Physics}.
